His appointment will begin this month with Australia’s home One-Day International (ODI) and T20 series against England. He will subsequently work with the team during next year’s Ashes series, the 2027 ODI World Cup, the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the upcoming T20 World Cup cycle.
Hussey Brings Extensive Coaching Experience
Michael Hussey has gained considerable coaching experience in recent years, working with several major T20 competitions around the world. He has been part of the coaching staff of England’s T20 World Cup-winning team. He has also worked in leagues such as the Indian Premier League (IPL) and The Hundred.
His responsibilities will primarily include developing T20 strategies, assessing the strengths and weaknesses of opposition teams, identifying emerging players and helping them improve their performances.
Expressing his excitement about the appointment, Hussey said, "I am extremely excited to become a formal and meaningful part of the team over the coming years. This team has achieved a great deal in recent times. I hope I can prove useful to the players and the coaching group."
Australia head coach Andrew McDonald welcomed Hussey, saying his experience would be highly beneficial to the existing coaching staff and players. He also highlighted that Hussey’s experience of playing and coaching across different formats, countries and competitions made him a valuable addition to the team.
Michael Hussey played 302 international matches for Australia and scored 22 centuries during his international career. He retired from international cricket in January 2013.
His appointment brings his international cricket experience and coaching expertise into Australia's coaching setup as the team prepares for several major tournaments and series over the coming years.
